FALARIS

コロナ災害をはじめとする災害が続き、直接会う人が減る中、SNSを中心とした炎上を代表に、人に対する不信感や不寛容が広がっている。いじめの標的として悪い言葉を書き、それをSNSで燃やすのは、ギリシャの拷問装置であるファラリスの雄牛のように、人を少しずつ火で燃やすという残酷な行為を彷彿とさせる。本作品は、一人一人がこの悲惨な状況に気づき、いじめに巻き込まれることなく意識的に新しい行動を起こすことを願って制作された。

FALARIS

As disasters such as the COVID crisis continue and direct human contact declines, distrust and intolerance have spread—most visibly through online outrage on social media. Writing abusive words as targets of bullying and igniting them online recalls the cruelty of Phalaris’s Brazen Bull, a device that burned people slowly by fire. This work was created in the hope that each individual recognizes this tragic condition and consciously chooses new actions, without becoming complicit in bullying.
